A simple reflection to close the year with clarity (and less pressure).  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

🎙️ The Signal & The Noise — December 16

Hi Newsletter Subscribers,

December is such a weird little pocket of time in podcasting.
Half the industry is already mentally sipping mulled wine, and the other half is “finishing the year strong” (whatever that means 😅).

So this week, instead of pretending it's business as usual, let's pause… breathe… and look at your year with a softer, more honest lens.

1. You Probably Did More This Year Than You Think

Creators are notoriously hard on themselves. You remember every missed upload, every late-night edit, every abandoned idea.
But zoom out for a second:

You showed up in a year when attention was more scattered than ever.
You created something that literally did not exist last December.
You kept going when many people quietly stopped.
If you're still creating in December, you're already ahead.
That's not fluff — that's truth.

2. The Pressure to “Finish Strong” Is Mostly Made-Up

December turns into this odd performance where everyone acts like they're sprinting… when most people are running on creative fumes.
Let me give you the permission slip no one else will:

💛 You're allowed to rest.
💛 You're allowed to regroup.
💛 You're allowed to slow down without losing momentum.

Podcasting rewards consistency, not holiday panic.
Your January self will thank you for showing restraint now.

3. The Future Looks Better Than the Headlines Suggest

Weirdly, 2025 was full of doom-posting — but the actual numbers paint a much calmer picture.

📊 2025 at a Glance (aka: You're Not Crazy, the Industry Is Steady)

• 🌍 580M+ global listeners, still growing (slow and healthy!)
• 🇺🇸 55% of US adults listen monthly — all-time high
• 🎯 Niche shows retain ~35% more listeners than broad ones
• 🎧 Over half of listeners identify as audio-first, not video-first

Not a boom.
Not a bust.

A mature industry stabilizing — which is exactly when smart creators rise.

Quick Reflection for This Week

Just one question — answer it for yourself:

What's one thing you created this year that made you genuinely proud… and why?

Let that be the story of your 2025.
