✉️ The Great Podcast Slowdown

Hi Newsletter Subscribers,

Let's start with what's happening right now.
This month, data from ListenNotes and Podnews showed something surprising: new podcast launches are down more than 30% year over year.

It's the biggest slowdown since 2020.
But it's not bad news.
It's a correction — and it's good for anyone who plans to stick around.
Because when the wave of “start-a-show” enthusiasm fades, what's left are the people who actually build audiences.

That's where you win.

🎙️ Why the slowdown helps you

For the first time in years, attention isn't scattered. Listeners are returning to voices they already know.
That means:

✅ Less competition for guest spots.
✅ Easier time building listener trust.
✅ Hosts who are more open to recurring guests and collaborations.

But there's a catch — you have to stay consistent long enough to be remembered.
And that's where this week's tool comes in.

💡 The Staying Power System

To turn that consistency into something visible (and motivating), we built a 12-week tracker that shows your real momentum — week by week, cycle by cycle.

🎯 It's not an app. It's a simple Google Sheet or Excel file.
✅ Tracks: how often you show up, what traction you get, and who responds.
✅ Calculates: average views, collaborations, and a simple “staying power” score.
✅ Shows: a graph across multiple 12-week cycles so you can literally see your progress.

Download it here →

🧭 How it works

Each cycle represents twelve weeks of work — whether you're hosting, guesting, or both.
Every week, you log your episode or appearance, mark its status (Done, In Progress, or Skipped), add your views once it's live, and answer a few quick Yes/No prompts:

  • Did any new collaborations or invitations come from it?
  • Did I make something reusable (a clip, quote, checklist)?
  • Did I stay visible between episodes — posting, replying, or tagging others?

Those small check-ins add up to what we call your 5-Point Staying Power Score.

Here's the logic behind it:

First, ask yourself if you actually showed up. Did you publish or appear at least eight times this cycle? That alone proves consistency — it's the biggest predictor of whether you'll still be active next quarter.

Next, look at your traction. Are your views or listens holding steady or creeping up? Don't worry about spikes; steadiness equals trust.

Then, check your connections. Did any host, listener, or peer reach out first — maybe inviting you back, replying, or starting a new conversation? That's real proof your presence is resonating.

After that, look at reuse. Did you create something from your work that lives beyond the episode — a clip, a quote, a checklist? Reusables create compounding visibility and help you grow even when you're not recording.

Finally, consider visibility. Did you stay active between episodes — commenting, posting, or showing up in your audience's world? Momentum lives in the space between releases, and that's what keeps you top-of-mind.

When you answer “yes” to most of those — three or more — it means you're on track. Five out of five means you're compounding; your consistency is now creating opportunities.

That's the heart of the Staying Power System. It makes those invisible wins measurable.

⚙️ How to use the sheet

1️⃣ Open Cycle 1 — it already has a few example weeks filled in so you can see what a finished entry looks like.
2️⃣ Replace them with your own episodes, guest spots, or collaborations.
3️⃣ Fill it weekly — it takes about three minutes.
4️⃣ At week 12, check your five signals; the score updates automatically.
5️⃣ Duplicate the tab and start Cycle 2. The dashboard updates across cycles so you can compare progress.

The goal isn't perfection; it's rhythm. Keep showing up, see the data, and build from there.

📣 Try it, improve it, and share it

We'll share a few community-made edits in a future newsletter when you evolve this into something more.

The only rule: keep it useful.
