Shirley Markant
About Me:
I’m an entrepreneurial mindset coach, freelance medical and scientific writer, and former cancer research scientist. After spending 17 years in academic and pharmaceutical research & development, I transitioned into independent work that prioritizes flexibility, meaning, and human-centered impact. I now support thoughtful, high-achieving people in questioning inherited norms around work, leadership, and success, and in building lives and businesses aligned with what matters to them now. I am also the host of the soon-to-be rebranded and reactivated Un-Paradigmed Podcast (formerly The Sequel to a PhD Podcast).

Your Qualifications:
I have a PhD in cancer biology and bring nearly two decades of scientific training alongside experience as a small business owner and ICF-certified coach. My work blends analytical rigor with lived experience and human-centered coaching, with particular depth around professional identity shifts, leadership beyond traditional and corporate paradigms, and cultivating self-trust during periods of uncertainty and institutional instability. I speak from direct experience navigating multiple reinventions, building a business while parenting, and using misalignment as information rather than evidence of personal failure. My work is centered in the belief that small, thoughtful shifts can open up more spacious, creative, and humane ways of working and leading.
