Rachael Kelly

"I write as RB Kelly, but I don't have a middle name. Bonus points if you can guess why I had to invent one."
About Me:
I'm a Clarke Award-shortlisted sci-fi author and creative writing mentor from Northern Ireland. I've been writing since I was old enough to hold a pen, published for over two decades, and helping emerging authors find their voice since 2015.
I have a PhD in film theory and co-founded the CinePunked podcast, where, along with my friend and fellow cinephile Robert JE Simpson, we tried to bridge the gap between film academia and film fandom.
Areas I can talk about comfortably include: science fiction books and television, novel writing, paths to getting published as a first time author, the mechanics of creative writing, film academia, mental health issues, and motherhood.

Your Qualifications:
I'm a traditionally published sci-fi author. My debut novel was shortlisted for the Arthur C Clarke Award and the ESFS Award for Best Novel.
I've been working as a freelance creative writing mentor since 2015 and have helped countless authors find their creative path.
I have a PhD in film theory and was co-host of a film discussion blog for several years. (I'm still technically a co-host on the blog, but it's been dormant for a while.)
I'm a parent of 2 small children. My kids were born when I was in my late 30s and early 40s.
I have OCD and first became symptomatic at the age of 5. Since then, I've survived multiple mental health crises. I'm currently awaiting assessment for ASD and ADHD.
