RAKUGO PODCAST SHOW

RAKUGO PODCAST SHOW
Podcast Description
This is a podcast program that broadcasts
the traditional Japanese art of Rakugo to the world. This is an introductory
program that can be enjoyed even by people who know nothing about Rakugo. The
speakers are actual Rakugo storytellers, Kokontei Yusuke and Sanyutei Kouseinen.
Yusuke was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in
1994. After graduating from high school, she studied abroad in New York and San
Francisco in the United States for two years, mastering English. This exposure
to different cultures deepened her interest in her own country's traditional
culture, and after returning to Japan, she embarked on a career as a
professional Rakugo performer. While the world of Rakugo is dominated by men,
she is one of the few female Rakugo performers, active in vaudeville and other
venues. In addition to entertaining and fun "humorous stories," she
has also attracted attention for her work on Japanese horror stories such as
"ghost stories." She also works hard every day to spread the appeal
of Rakugo both at home and abroad, including by hosting English Rakugo
performances.

You’ll also get to know our hosts, Kokontei Yusuke and Sanyutei Kouseinen, as they share their fascinating personal stories about how they became professional Rakugo storytellers.
This humorous story is a parody of the famous ghost story “Banchō Sarayashiki.”Every night, a ghost named Okiku appears from a well and sadly counts the plates, saying “One, two…” Young people visit the mansion to test their courage.
Just as rumor has it, Okiku appears and begins counting the plates, and just when you think she’ll stop at nine, she continues counting, then ten, then eleven. Curious, they ask her why, and what does Okiku say?
This is a fun story that turns fear into laughter with the ghost’s unexpected humanity.
