Welcome to this special recording of the 22nd Annual Peace Lecture, recorded live at the St David Complex Lecture Theatre on Monday, 11 August 2025.
The Annual Peace Lecture is hosted by the Dunedin Abrahamic Interfaith Group in partnership with the Otago Tertiary Chaplaincy.
This year’s lecture features Professor Halim Rane in conversation with a panel of representatives from the Muslim, Jewish, and Christian faiths.
Professor Halim Rane is a leading Australian scholar of Islam, internationally recognised for his contributions to understanding Islam-West relations, inter-religious coexistence, and Muslim lived experiences in the contemporary world. His research, teaching, and community engagement have shaped scholarly and public discourse on Islam in relation to security, human rights, and global justice. Professor Rane’s interdisciplinary research explores the intersection of religion, politics, and international affairs, with a focus on Islam and Muslims in both historical and contemporary contexts. His work employs qualitative and mixed-methods approaches, including discourse analysis, interviews, surveys, and ethnography. He has authored over 80 scholarly publications, including eight books and is also the co-author of the forthcoming book “Covenants with Allah: Keystone of Islam.”
