Hosted by Jane Wright, a quiet little queer artist in NYC, and crawling with discussions between tons of her freaky pals, each episode will dissect two films from a certain horror film sub genre, i.e. slashers, vampires, folk, psychological, art house, body and more.
With particular focus on thoughtful analysis and patterns between horror movies, this podcast is for die hard horror fans, movie lovers, and thoughtful weirdos craving a new perspective on scary movies. Movies range from stone cold classics of the genre to...well the lovable misfits. Not only is there appreciation for the whole spectrum of content in the horror film canon, at least 50% of the movies discussed will be films made by female or non-binary directors. Welcome one and all to Horror Noir, aka Noirror! And there is noir way you won’t love the pair of films we discuss: The Night of the Hunter, directed by Charles Laughton & Diabolique, directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. Two timeless black and white masterworks from the year 1955.
……….
Oneiric, strange, erotic, ambivalent, and cruel: these horror noirs plunge us into worlds of crime and sorted characters. We discuss the technique of shooting on film to create those delicious black and white contrasts, the power of direction and screenwriting, and the gender dynamics of the 50s. With Diabolique being sighted as one of the greatest horror films ever made and The Night of the Hunter’s low-key “GOD-TIER” status, you’re in for a damn TREAT with this one.
