In this episode of our podcast, we discuss two modern Chinese dramas we didn’t expect to watch – “Why Is He Still Single” 他为什么依然单身 and “Shine On Me” 骄阳似我. It’s a study in contrast between two Shanghai-set modern stories. One is a slice-of-life dramedy with a non-existent plot, carried by its actors and comedic dynamic. The other suffers from an adolescent, inflated plot that potentially overshadows its pretty young leads. The romance is questionable in both, yet there are also things to like about each show.
