Inside the Arthouse | Ira Sachs on Peter Hujar’s Day — Queer Art, Intimacy & the Legacy of a Generation
It’s been nearly 30 years since filmmaker Ira Sachs made his indie debut with The Delta. While many of his peers moved toward studio franchises or television, Sachs has remained committed to crafting deeply personal films that explore love, identity, and the quiet intricacies of human connection.
In his new feature, Peter Hujar’s Day, Sachs turns to the rediscovered transcript of Linda Rosenkrantz’s 1974 interview with groundbreaking photographer Peter Hujar — a portrait of an artist, a community, and a moment in American culture that shaped everything that followed.
With mesmerizing performances from Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall, the film becomes a meditation on memory, creation, and the passage of time — a tender homage to queer history and artistic truth.
At just 76 minutes, it’s lean but layered — a film that lingers like a photograph, revealing more the longer you look.
🎙️ Join hosts Greg Laemmle and Raphael Sbarge for an intimate conversation with Ira Sachs about art, legacy, and why the most radical act in cinema might still be honesty.
