In this episode of Franciscan Fridays, Brother Pius and Father Luke explore the themes of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, self-sacrifice, friendship, loneliness, community, and the Christian call to love our neighbors.
Spider-Man has always been a character associated with responsibility: “With great power comes great responsibility.” But the story also points to something deeper — no hero exists entirely on his own.
Looking at Spider-Man through the lens of Catholic spirituality, Brother Pius and Father Luke discuss why God created us for community, why friendship and family matter, and why the Christian life isn’t simply “Jesus and me.” We are called to live in communion with one another through the Catholic Church, our families, our friendships, and our communities.
They also reflect on themes of self-sacrifice, vulnerability, fraternal charity, the gifts God gives each person, and the way other people can become instruments God uses to help us grow in holiness.
In the end, the message is simple: love of God and love of neighbor belong together.
🙏 Pray for one another.
❤️ Love one another.
✝️ Help one another grow closer to God.
