Behrouz vokste opp i Iran, hvor han levde sine første tolv år før han sammen med familien måtte flykte til Norge. Han kommer fra en familie som betalte en høy pris for sin politiske motstand – tre av hans onkler ble henrettet på 80-tallet. Både moren og faren ble fengslet som politiske fanger, og faren overlevde så vidt den brutale massakren i 1988 etter åtte år i fangenskap. I dag lever Behrouz et trygt liv i Norge og arbeider som overingeniør, men historien han bærer på har formet ham dypt. Den driver hans sterke engasjement for frihet, demokrati og et bedre fremtid for Iran.
