Today’s show, “Brain Balance: What Causes It?” with Carl Bowcut, opened up a powerful conversation about what many of us carry every day: brain baggage — or maybe better said, brain imbalance.
For years, people were told it was simply a “chemical imbalance.” But the brain is far more complex than that. Research now points more toward issues with mood regulation, communication, stress response, trauma, and how different systems in the brain and nervous system interact.
We talked about fight, flight, freeze, and the parasympathetic nervous system — the part of us that helps bring the body back into rest, safety, and balance after stress or danger.
One of the biggest takeaways was this:
Your brain is your central command center. When it’s overactive, overwhelmed, or stuck in survival mode, it can affect everything — sleep, focus, memory, anxiety, depression, trauma responses, and how we show up in life.
And just like recovery, brain health is not one-size-fits-all.
What works for one person may not work for another. Healing is a journey. Brain balance is a journey. And the goal is not to shame the struggle — it’s to understand what’s happening beneath the surface so we can support the person with compassion, science, and hope.
Maybe it’s not that you’re broken.
Maybe your brain has been carrying too much for too long.
Stress, trauma, grief, addiction, anxiety, depression, sleepless nights, survival mode — all of it leaves an imprint.
Brain health is not one-size-fits-all.
Healing is not one-size-fits-all.
Recovery is not one-size-fits-all.
Your brain is your command center. And when it starts finding balance, your life can start finding peace.
