Meet Junko (AKA Tamura), born in the city of Osaka and raised in Tokio, Japan. Her international exposure to the world started when she went to study abroad in Australia, and from there, she never stopped traveling! She opens up about how mesmerizing was her first experience of going abroad and experiencing another culture, coming from an Asian background, in which society expectations and behaviors are very distinct than the Westerns countries.
After her first experience in Australia, under an intensive English course, she decided she wanted to experience more of the world, so after a few years, she went to England to study fashion and design. She also lived in Hong Kong, a place she dearlyloves and considers to be her second home for many reasons, we expand a lot about the differences between Hong Kong and mainland China as well as her work at the time in the arts and fashion industry.
A fun curiosity I found out while chatting with her is that her parents lived in Brazil for a few years and even gathered artifacts from the country while there. She also shares aspects that she really cherishes about the Chinese culture, such as the family closeness and gatherings.
We also chat about her time in Germany, her children being raised in an international background and learning three languages simultaneously. Junko explains why it gets tough for her to learn mandarin because of her Japanese language, and some society differences between the two countries aswell. We chat about the reality of international schools here in China and the limitations she faces by raising small children in the country.
We even ended up chatting about a similar herbal drink Japanese and Brazilian consume! Can you guess the which drinks I am talking about?
