The Town of Dyer dedicates this episode to the community’s ongoing recovery from Storm Lucy, the derecho that caused widespread damage, power outages, downed trees, flooding and infrastructure challenges across Northwest Indiana.
Town Manager Dave Hine is joined by Public Works Director Jeff Dvorjak and Fire Chief Joe Martin to discuss how Dyer responded in the immediate aftermath of the storm, including emergency operations, first responder call volume, generator operations, road and debris clearing, traffic signal issues and support for residents without power.
The team also highlights the importance of emergency preparedness, communication and neighbors helping neighbors, as well as Dyer’s efforts to provide cooling and charging centers, debris drop-off locations and assistance for vulnerable residents.
The episode also covers the town’s partnership with GoServe Global, a volunteer organization helping residents with storm cleanup, along with information on how Dyer residents can request assistance, volunteer and stay informed.
