This week on the Y’all Be Good Podcast, Heather and Ralf sit down with Steve and Maloree McNabb, the husband-and-wife team behind the local Once Upon A Child franchise in Kenosha.
What makes their story especially interesting is that owning a children’s resale store wasn’t always the plan. Both Steve and Maloree had successful careers outside of the industry before taking a leap into small-business ownership and building something completely different together.
We talk about what led them to make that change, what they’ve learned about running a business as a couple, and what life really looks like behind the scenes of a store that buys and sells thousands of gently used kids’ clothes, shoes, toys, and baby items.
We also dig into the idea behind resale itself—giving families an affordable way to shop while helping extend the life of items their kids have already outgrown instead of sending perfectly usable things to a landfill.
But what Heather and Ralf appreciate most about Steve and Maloree is the way they show up for their community. They’ve consistently supported other local businesses, generously given their time and resources, and have become great friends of Little Lion Cuts along the way.
It’s a conversation about career changes, marriage, entrepreneurship, sustainability, community, and taking a chance on a completely new chapter.
This week, we’re talking small business with Steve and Maloree McNabb.
