A lot of kids start small businesses. Mowing lawns, washing cars, sweeping driveways. Jacob McKinnon's range of services were not unlike those of any other enterprising kid, save for one thing: he knew how to scale.
Before long he'd recruited most of his friends and they covered all of the suburbs in the area. Mowing lawns and washing cars that Jacob could never get to. At an early age he discovered that he had 'a bit of a knack' for selling.
This knack for selling has served Jacob well over the years. It gave birth to a direct marketing business that at it's peak was generating over $20 Million in revenue and employed 120 people. It was also the skillset that he turned to when COVID destroyed that very same business; a business that he and his wife Ania had worked so hard to build.
In this episode of 'The Greatest Comeback', Jacob McKinnon and I talk about his journey through the world of Sales, his experience of building and losing a business, and finding the courage to start again.
We also talk about:
- The Importance of Inoculating yourself from 'No'
- The 3 traits he looks for in a sales person
- Why Selling is such a transferrable skill set
If you're going through your own re-invention I think you'll take a lot from this conversation. I know I did ✨
Please enjoy.
