Podcast Description
Each Episode Under 15 Minutes--Two Episodes Dropping This Week!
Sticky Hopebox Soapbox is a bite-sized podcast hosted by mental health advocate B, where real stories meet resources and hope! Each episode is a journey to destigmatize mental health and substance use challenges by centering voices from all walks of life. Whether it's a powerful snippet from an interview with an incredible guest, a coping strategy someone swears by, or a tool B personally finds helpful, every episode is packed with motivation and practical support. Using humor, hope, and honesty, B opens up conversations on the tough stuff, all while helping listeners imagine what a better, more supportive future could look like in their communities!
B appears in this podcast not as a professional but as a fellow peer. Her early life was marked by domestic violence, frequent upheaval, and profound grief—including the loss of her parents and grandparents by her mid-20s. For over a decade, she worked behind the scenes in entertainment while navigating PTSD, addiction, chronic depression, and caregiving. Now, nearly 5 years alcohol-free, she works as a Peer Support Specialist for a mental health organization, volunteers as a facilitator for a Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group, and shares photos she's taken and mental health content frequently on her Instagram b.a.lensfor hope and her website https://www.balensforgood.com/.

✨ Ep. 7: Meet Nicholas–Caregiving, Cats, and Catharsis
Welcome back to Sticky Hopebox Soapbox Podcast! I’m B—as in–your Bestie in the HOPE department, and I’m so glad you’re here!
Every episode, in approximately 20 minutes, I aim to bring you a pocket-sized dose of hope, a resource or coping skill, and of course, a sticky note of the week!
In today’s episode, I’m thrilled to introduce you to Nicholas! He is an author, poet, podcast host, cat dad, former peer specialist, and great listener. In this first episode with Nicholas, we talk about, of course, his favorite color, his top coping skills, how caregiving became full circle in caring for his mom in her last days, grief, anticipation of death, baseball, and mental health challenges. He tells us about his podcast, his poetry and writing, and the party that I haven’t been able to stop talking about since I heard about it. This episode is full of heart, humor and hope.
Nicholas is a white man with short red hair and medium-length red beard, or as he refers to himself, a diminished redhead. He is wearing a black button grandfather shirt and black headphones. This is recorded in May of 2025, and we are on a video call. He has a painting and a bookcase with books behind him. He is sitting down in a chair with his black and white cat, Bubba, joining him on his lap at times. Please meet the nurturing narrator, Nicholas.
Let’s keep going, together. 💛
