Recently, I had a completely unexpected encounter. I was meeting someone for work — an ordinary, professional conversation. And then, completely out of nowhere, it turned out he knew my story. Not just knew of me – knew the details. Because he had been connected to the man who abused my son.
And in that moment, something happened that I genuinely did not expect.
The feelings came back.
The anger. The guilt. The grief. All of it – suddenly as raw and immediate as it had ever been. Even though years have passed. Even though I have done so much work. Even though I thought I was past this.
And it made me ask a question I want to bring to you today.
What is the difference between coping with something and actually healing from it?
In this episode, I share:
• My own story – what happened to my son, what it cost me, and how I rebuilt
• The unexpected encounter that ambushed me with feelings I thought were buried
• Why coping and healing are not the same thing – and what the difference actually feels like from the inside
• What healing really requires, and why so many of us never quite get there
• Four practical things to do when old pain finds you again
• Why being ambushed by old feelings is not a sign that you have failed
