Welcome to Majors &Minors at Cal Poly Humboldt!
This show takes a close look at the rich academic offerings of our campus and all of the areas of study that can be pursued as a student. Each episode features an interview with a department Chair (or Chairs) and focuses on the specifics of an area of study and the value of that pursuit both inside the college experience and beyond.
Our first Majors & Minors guest is Dr. Sarah Jaquette Ray, Chair of the Environmental Studies Program which is an interdisciplinary area of study and provides students the tools for understanding the complex relationships between human communities and both “natural” and constructed environments.
Dr. Ray has been teaching at Cal Poly Humboldt since 2013. She has a Ph.D in Environmental Sciences, Studies, and Policy, a Masters in American Studies and a Bachelors in Religious Studies and Women's Studies. Her recent book A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety: How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet is an incredible look at what it means to be alive in this moment. An environmental humanist and someone whose work is deeply relevant to Humboldt County , Dr. Ray is a great first guest for the show.
