Dancing through life requires balance—something Jasmine Eapen has mastered exceptionally well. As a dedicated nurse anesthetist, mother of three, and founder of Chilanka Dance School, Jasmine embodies the belief that ”if you have passions, you will find time.”
Born to South Indian parents but raised in Dallas, Jasmine carried her love for traditional Indian dance through childhood into her professional life. After establishing her career as a CRNA and moving to Houston, she found herself reconnecting with dance through her children's eyes. What began as teaching in her garage has blossomed into a thriving dance school at Spacious in Pearland, where students learn a unique fusion of centuries-old Bharatanatyam with contemporary Bollywood styles.
Chilanka Dance School stands out for its inclusive approach—welcoming students of all ages and skill levels. From children as young as five to working professionals seeking creative outlet, Jasmine's school creates a supportive community where even those with ”two left feet” discover rhythm and confidence. Beyond teaching steps, she emphasizes the holistic benefits of dance: physical conditioning, mental clarity, cultural connection, and the joy of self-expression.
The school is preparing for exciting performances at Houston's International Festival on May 17th and launching a summer dance camp June 2-6 for children ages 5-15. This week-long immersion will introduce young dancers to various Indian dance forms—from classical traditions to regional styles like Bhangra and Garba—culminating in a special performance for parents.
Ready to explore Indian dance or introduce your child to a new cultural experience? Visit chillingadanceschool.com to learn about weekly Wednesday classes or register for the upcoming summer camp. As Jasmine reminds us, pursuing your passions isn't about finding extra hours—it's about bringing your whole self to everything you do.
