On August 14 2026 the Wall Street Journal published a profile of Cami Clark the wife of Anthropic co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei describing her as his sounding board and strategic adviser. Within hours the story had been overtaken by a single detail buried inside it: in 2011 and 2012 Clark tried to raise money for her adult film company from Jeffrey Epstein. In March 2011 Clark reached out to Epstein after being introduced to him by John Brockman a literary agent who helped connect Epstein with scientists and tech figures. Their correspondence continued for at least two years. A week after her first email she sent Epstein an attachment — the script for her first four films — and invited him to a housewarming party before adding him on LinkedIn.

The Anthropic influence thread is the episode’s most structurally significant and most broadly consequential contribution. Clark acts as a sounding board and strategic adviser for Amodei. She brought the company a key early investor — Democrat megadonor Eric Schmidt whom she had dated — as Anthropic was getting off the ground in early 2021. Anthropic is valued at nearly $1 trillion and approaching a potential IPO that could top trillions of dollars in value. The most influential person at one of the most consequential companies in the history of artificial intelligence has no title no badge almost no public footprint and her name scrubbed from the internet so thoroughly that Anthropic’s own AI chatbot Claude initially responded to queries about whether Dario Amodei is married by naming his sister.
