On today’s episode of the Trout Wrangler Podcast, I sit down with Kyle McCann, founder of The Kurrent and The Kurrent Supply, to talk about fishing, content creation, outdoor marketing, and what it takes to turn a passion for the outdoors into a career.
Kyle has spent more than a decade working on the brand side of the outdoor and consumer industries, with experience across content, social media, creator partnerships, paid media, and marketing strategy. His background includes work with brands and companies like Smith Optics, Canyon Bicycles, Transworld Media, Meta, and others.
We get into Kyle’s outdoor journey and his more than 30 years of fishing everything from freshwater and saltwater to fly fishing, offshore fishing, tournaments, and travel. We also talk about how The Kurrent originally started as a creative outlet before growing into something much bigger.
Kyle breaks down the idea behind The Kurrent Supply and how he’s using his experience on both sides of the industry to help outdoor brands get more out of their content and partnerships while also helping creators understand what brands actually look for.
We also talk content creation, building an audience, working with outdoor companies, and what he’s learned from going all-in on building his own business after years of helping grow other brands.
And of course, we get into Kyle’s own Fishing for a Living podcast, where he shares stories from anglers, creators, entrepreneurs, and others who have found ways to build their lives and careers around fishing.
We wrap things up with five songs for the Trout Tunes Spotify playlist, plus final thanks and plugs.
If you’re interested in fishing, outdoor media, content creation, entrepreneurship, or finding a way to make the outdoors part of your career, you’ll enjoy this one.
🎣 Let’s get into it.
