Falls are the #1 reason adults 65+ visit the ER — and most fall prevention advice stops at ”remove your throw rugs.” In this episode, we go well beyond the basics with Becky Fee, Community Outreach Manager at the University of Indianapolis Center for Aging & Community and coordinator of the Hoosier Falls Prevention Coalition.
Becky has been teaching evidence-based fall prevention since 2017, and she covers the stuff people don't usually hear: which three joints to strengthen (and simple exercises for each), why thick-soled shoes are actually a balance hazard, how your pet's fur color matters, why the living room beats the bathroom for fall risk, and why a medication review with your pharmacist could be the most important thing you do this year.
She also walks through what to do when someone falls — including why your first instinct to help them up is probably the wrong move.
