Live from Vic’s Las Vegas is a performance-driven podcast capturing the city’s most captivating live jazz moments from its premier supper club, Vic’s Las Vegas. Produced and hosted by Jason Beatty, each episode spotlights world-class musicians and vocalists—from icons like Dave Damiani and Patrick Lamb to Las Vegas legends like Marlene Ricci. Recorded live in front of an intimate audience, the series blends concert energy with broadcast polish, offering listeners a front-row seat to the sound of modern Vegas nightlife. Live from Vic’s celebrates the artistry, elegance, and spontaneity that make Las Vegas one of the world’s great jazz destinations.
Experience one of the most electrifying big-band performances of the year as Live from Vic’s Las Vegas presents Patrick Hogan & The Jazz Vegas Orchestra, recorded in partnership with the Jazz Outreach Initiative to support youth jazz education across Southern Nevada.
This 18-piece powerhouse ensemble delivers a high-energy, sharply executed, and emotionally rich evening of classic swing, modern arrangements, and original compositions—all led by pianist, vocalist, arranger, and bandleader Patrick Hogan, whose precision and musicality set the tone for a truly standout performance.
The night opens with bold Basie-style energy before moving into a setlist that spans Great American Songbook favorites, iconic jazz arrangements, and Hogan’s own compositions:
- “All of Me” — the 1931 standard, played with full big-band punch
- “No Strings, No Connection” — Irving Berlin classic, delivered with Vegas flair
- “All Roads Lead to You” — Hogan’s original ballad, intimate and beautifully arranged
- “Fun Time” — Sammy Nestico’s high-octane Basie burner
- “Sail a Garrett” — Hogan original, emotional and lyrically driven
- “Unforgettable” — reimagined with a fresh arrangement
- “Tenderly” — a lush, breathless rendition
- “The Blues Machine” — hard-swinging Nestico highlight
- “Dimensions in Blue” — deep big-band color and featured solos
- “Switch in Time” — the perfect Nestico closer
Hogan’s arrangements show an uncommon level of craftsmanship—so much so that host Kurt Miller compares his writing to Mel Tormé, one of the few legendary vocalists known for arranging all his own charts. The orchestra’s performance features standout solos across saxophone, trombone, trumpet, rhythm section, and violin, showcasing some of Las Vegas’s most respected jazz musicians.
With support from Jazz Outreach Initiative, presenters, board members, and the unmatched staff at Vic’s, this episode captures the true live spirit of professional big-band jazz—the kind of show that transforms Vic’s into the beating heart of the Vegas jazz scene.
Whether you’re a lifelong jazz lover, a student of big-band arranging, or simply someone who appreciates a night of world-class musicianship, this episode delivers a thrilling, polished, and soulful performance from start to finish.
