CARDIOMYOPATHIES MATTER

CARDIOMYOPATHIES MATTER
Podcast Description
Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle. It causes the heart to have a more challenging time pumping blood to the rest of the body, which can lead to symptoms of heart failure. Cardiomyopathy also can lead to some other severe heart conditions.
There are various types of cardiomyopathy, including dilated, hypertrophic, and restrictive cardiomyopathy. Treatment includes medicines, sometimes surgically implanted devices, and heart surgery. Some people with severe cardiomyopathy need a heart transplant. Treatment depends on the type of cardiomyopathy and its severity.
Prof. Dr. Emmelien Van Craenenbrouck (University Hospital Antwerp) ezxplains.

Emphasizes cardiovascular health with specific topics including the types of cardiomyopathy, treatment options, and personal experiences of those affected, exemplified by episodes dedicated to Sophie Charlier's testimony and expert insights from Prof. Dr. Emmelien Van Craenenbrouck.

Cardiomyopathies are a group of diseases that affect the heart and can impair its ability to pump blood effectively. These conditions are often hereditary and may go undetected for years, even though they can lead to serious complications such as abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) or heart failure. Despite their profound impact on patients’ daily lives, cardiomyopathies are often underrecognized and underdiagnosed. Timely diagnosis and a well-coordinated care pathway are therefore essential for patients.
To raise awareness about these conditions, Cardiomyopathies Matter Belgium launched a podcast series in which cardiologist Prof. Emeline Van Craenenbroeck (UZA) and patient Sophie Charlier share their knowledge and experiences in respectively Dutch and French.
