In a recent article, The New York Times, known to be a critic of the Narendra Modi government, heaped praise upon the Indian Prime Minister’s foreign policy choices, especially Modi’s “deal-making” spree.  Former Ambassador and veteran diplomat Vivek Katju feels that the NYT article or jubilation over the successful hosting of BRICS fail to articulate the challenges the Indian foreign policy faces, especially in the age of tech and AI, an epoch that Western nations have already crossed with China fast catching up. In this interview with The Quint’s Rakhi Bose, Katju talks about India’s foreign policy options, the American conundrum, and whether Modi government’s “deal-making” and “Vishwa Guru” policies are enough to tide India over to the next phase of global geopolitics.
