India’s former Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) chief and ‘Spymaster’ AS Dulat’s new book, ‘The Chief Minister and the Spy’, has already made ripples in both literary and political circles. Based on Dulat’s interactions and friendship with former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah over the years, the book has stirred controversy for seemingly claiming Abdullah was ready to “help New Delhi” with the abrogation of Article 370 in August, 2019. Facing heat in Kashmir, Abdullah has dismissed the book’s controversial statements about him as a ‘cheap stunt’. Is it ? Or are we misreading the book?
In an exclusive interview with The Quint, Dulat denies making such claims and states that the book is meant to “appreciate” Abdullah instead. “I never said Farooq helped with abrogation,” Dulat tells The Quint.
