Content Themes
The podcast focuses on various themes related to the foster care system, resilience, and advocacy. Specific topics include transitioning out of foster care, systemic reform, and personal narratives of overcoming adversity, with episodes featuring discussions on the resources available for aging-out youth and personal stories that challenge the status quo, such as Tristian Smith's memoir and insights from social service experts.

This is not a comfort podcast. Hosted by Amira Therese, foster care alumni, Interview With a Foster Kid – Declassified exposes the hidden truths of the foster system and rewrites the narrative society ignores. Every year, hundreds of thousands of foster children go missing or are silenced, their lives overlooked by bureaucracy and indifference. This podcast calls out systemic failure, confronts collective ignorance, and demands action.
Why listen? Ignoring the crisis isn’t neutral.
This podcast lifts the voices deliberately silenced, reveals what foster kids and alumni endure, and equips listeners to see, understand, and act. These are real stories, raw truths, and unflinching accountability. Be challenged. Be informed. Be moved to act.

This episode shares my story of being trafficked out of foster care by the very system meant to protect me.
It also tells how my CASA volunteer, who always managed to find me no matter how many placements or states I passed through, found me again when I was sitting in juvenile detention. Her intervention changed the entire trajectory of my life.
This story is raw, honest, and necessary.
Thousands of foster youth carry similar truths in silence. Speaking out is not only a reclaiming of power, it becomes a light for the next child lost in the system.
