When people think of animation, the typical idea is of a Disney creature, or of a Studio Ghibli fantasy world. It isn’t a common event to find films done by animators that take on far deeper topics. Sheila Sofian is able to tell the tales of real people who have gone through tragedy, or survived life’s worst events. When her films are screened, people don’t leave the cinema cheerily singing songs, they leave thinking about the reality of another person, and the impact that one film makes for a discussion that needs to be had. The beauty of the imagery, plus the narration of the characters- who are usually the voices of the people who are being highlighted. These are films about people.
