'The Display Kid' with Sam Visram
'The Display Kid' with Sam Visram
Podcast Description
It’s something I got called many years back in a derogatory way......
"You're the Display Kid that's come to make our store look pretty!"
But now I kind of like it.........
I guess all Visual Merchandisers can relate to the concept of being called: “The Display Kid”. We all have our own version.
For this reason I decided to set up a podcast series where I'll be connecting with leaders within the visual merchandising space. We'll be talking through the personal and professional stories that have shaped them into the creative humans they are now.

I guess all Visual Merchandisers can relate to the concept of being called: “The Display Kid”. We all have our own version.
For this reason I decided to set up a podcast series where I’ll be connecting with leaders within the visual merchandising space. We’ll be talking through the personal and professional stories that have shaped them into the creative humans they are now.
In this episode, I sit down with Melanie Angel, Freelance VM Consultant and veteran of brands like Gymshark, HOKA, and MUJI, to talk about what it looks like to build a career completely on your own terms.
Melanie shares what pushed her to make the leap into freelance, how it reshaped her definition of success, and why balance isn't a compromise but a choice. We get into the kind of leadership that has nothing to do with a title, why showing up as a genuine, consistent human goes further than any strategy, and how kindness has a way of coming full circle.
We also dig into the realities of VM, communicating across teams that see the world through completely different lenses, and what it takes to adapt without losing yourself in the process.
A conversation about confidence, freedom, and what success actually feels like when you define it yourself.
