SMART Recovery USA relies, in part, on research showing that having any vital, absorbing, and creative interest can help people get and stay sober. The Phoenix offers sober activities that can help folks stay physically active and connected. Is it time for you to get out there and find the recovery communities that are right for you?
Host Morgan D. Stewart explores two different, but complementary, volunteer-based, mutual support groups with:
- Dr. Henry Steinberger, one of the early creators of SMART Recovery
- Teresa Susmaras, a mental health practitioner with lived experience of addiction, and SMART Recovery meeting facilitator
- Birdie Murphy, a who has created The Phoenix's first sober team for RAGBRAI 2026
They dive into the many ways hobbies and passions can help people on their unique wellness paths. It's a brief and informative episode where you can learn more about two popular non-profits dedicated to providing FREE gatherings for folks struggling with addictive behavior.
