Quick question: Do you know where your vagina is pointing? Yep. Alissa Alter is coming in hot — because alignment is everything. When your pelvis is aligned with gravity, your spine and body fall into place. And when your vagina is aligned with gravity, your whole life aligns with the universe.
In this episode, I’m joined by Alissa Alter (she/her), affectionately known as “The Amy Poehler of vaginas.” She’s a Broadway performer turned women’s health advocate, a coach, author, podcaster, and unapologetic truth-teller determined to change the narrative around the female experience.
Through her work, Alissa helps women reconnect with their bodies, break down taboos, and reclaim their power.
🌟 Who is Alissa Alter? 🌟
Broadway credits: A Chorus Line, Guys & Dolls, 42nd Street Author of Unstuck: From Understudy to the Study of Your Undercarriage Host of the podcasts Alter Your Life and Myth of Motherhood Creator of the sold-out one-woman show Me Party #ILoveMyLife Co-founder and Head of Content at pstprtm.com, a media platform revolutionizing the postpartum experience Personal trainer, coach, and expert in women’s health, movement, and pelvic floor reintegration Alissa’s 20s were spent touring the country with Broadway shows — while stuck in a marriage that wasn’t right. Her 30s were about asking hard questions: why she kept handing over her autonomy, how to stop repeating patterns, and how to finally fall in love with herself.
That journey led her to the work she does now: guiding women to feel safe, strong, and at home in their bodies. 💡 Her turning point? Childbirth. Despite her expertise, Alissa experienced fourth-degree tears during delivery. The physical and emotional recovery left her feeling isolated, confused, and disconnected. Instead of staying stuck, she became her own client — applying compassion, small steps, intentional movement, and her deep knowledge of the female body to heal and grow.
Now, Alissa uses her eclectic background in Broadway performance, women’s health, and coaching to help women through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. She’s not here to help you “bounce back” or look like a celebrity mom. She’s here to make sure you feel strong, connected, and truly at home in your body.
🌙 What We Talk About in This Episode 🌙
Why it’s time to get real about vaginas, pelvic floors, and postpartum health How alignment (yes, even vaginal alignment!) changes everything What Alissa learned from Broadway that applies to motherhood Her personal journey: marriage, divorce, self-discovery, and healing The truth about postpartum recovery: hemorrhoids, discharge, orgasms, and everything in between How taboo-breaking conversations help women feel less alone Why emotional fitness is just as important as physical fitness Practical tools for reconnecting with your body after childbirth How to stop striving for perfection and start embracing who you really are.
🌟 Fun Facts About Alissa 🌟
She loves coffee (aka anxiety juice) and refuses to give it up. She once tap-danced with Jonathan Groff at the Miscast benefit. She wears a size 5.5 shoe and didn’t realize it was small until college. She says “vagina” a lot (and thinks you should too). When she says she’ll do something, she does it — whether it’s writing a book, producing a show, founding a company, or leaving a marriage to live authentically.
