“Straight Talk Sacred Pathway” is a spiritually grounded podcast hosted by British working-class author Stuart Welbourn in conversation with Wa-Na-Nee-Che, an Indigenous elder from Turtle Island (America). Together they explore the Human Circle of Life—a vision rooted in ancient wisdom, balance with nature, and spiritual renewal. Through honest, often humorous dialogue, they invite listeners to rediscover forgotten truths, reconnect with spirit, and walk a more meaningful path in a world that’s lost its way.
This week we're doing something a little different.
Native Elder Wa-Na-Nee-Che gives us a practical demonstration of how he makes a traditional medicine pouch, explaining the significance he gives to the materials that go inside it and why he believes the intention of the person making it matters.
He then demonstrates the construction of the pouch itself before Stuart returns with some practical questions about the leather, tools, materials and traditions involved.
Wa-Na-Nee-Che also shares the remarkable story of his first medicine pouch, which disappeared after he had carried it for several years — and what he was subsequently told that disappearance meant.
Because this episode is a practical demonstration, you may get more from watching the video version if you're able to.
