Host Sue Stockdale speaks with Galapagos-born photographer and naturalist guide Andres Cruz. He reflects on growing up on remote Floreana Island, developing a conservation mindset from close everyday encounters with wildlife, and later appreciating the islands’ pristine nature after leaving for university.
Cruz explains how surfing led him into photography and how expedition cruise ships enable travellers to access to hard-to-reach places like remote Galapagos islands, the Arctic, and Antarctica. He describes his dual role onboard as naturalist guide and photography instructor, offering practical guidance on composition, light, smartphone techniques and preparation for zodiac shooting.
