Let’s Talk Respectability Politics
In this episode, I open a heartfelt conversation about respectability politics and the myth of imposter syndrome. We’ve been told that imposter syndrome is something we must “fix” within ourselves—especially if we are women, mothers, creatives, or leaders who dare to do life differently. But what if the real issue is not within us at all?
I explore how the world we move through was not designed with all of our identities, expressions, or cultural truths in mind—and how the pressure to “perform” acceptance, professionalism, or palatability can make us feel like we don’t belong in our own bodies.
This is not about striving to fit in.
This is about coming home to yourself.
Together, we examine:
- How respectability politics show up in our daily choices—from how we speak to how we love ourselves.
- Why imposter syndrome is not a personal flaw but often a symptom of environments that do not know how to receive us.
- The radical power of nurturing your identity as sacred—your culture, your sensuality, your joy, your voice.
- What it looks like to honor yourself as the authority of your life, rather than seeking permission to be.
This episode is an invitation to soften the edges you’ve sharpened to survive, to breathe into your individuality, and to remember that you are not here to prove yourself—you are here to embody yourself.
May this conversation support you in reclaiming your wholeness, in public and in private.
Let’s talk about it. Let’s remember ourselves.
