On behalf of the EYRC, Dr Mirela-Diana Ilie interviewed Professor Niki Karavitaki in January 2026.Niki Karavitaki is Professor of Endocrinology and Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham where she co-leads the Pituitary Service and Pituitary MDT. Her research and clinical interests focus on hypothalamo-pituitary disease (particularly sellar and parasellar tumours and hypopituitarism) covering pathogenesis, management and long-term outcomes. She has extensively published on her field and is a sought after lecturer in national and international meetings. She is also actively involved in patient support groups and patient education and serves a number of professional and scientific committees. In this interview, Professor Niki Karavitaki covered the following topics:
- opioid-induced endocrinopathies
- the risk of a second brain tumor after radiotherapy for pituitary adenoma or craniopharyngioma
- the natural history of non-operated micro- & macro non-functioning pituitary adenomas
- the EndoCompass Research Roadmap project
She also shared with us several words of wisdom! It was a great privilege to interview Professor Niki Karavitaki, and we hope that her insights will inspire early-career clinicians and scientists in their own career paths in Endocrinology!#Endocrinology#Neuroendocrinology#PituitaryDiseases#ENEA#EYRC#YoungResearchers#MedicalResearch#womeninscienceday Join the ENEA Young Researchers Committee (EYRC) community and stay updated on the latest research, events, and opportunities!
