Beyond the Score is back for Season 3 — and the students of Hollywood Hills High School's Careers in Sports program are kicking things off with one of the biggest sports stories in manga and anime right now: Blue Lock.

Written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, Blue Lock follows 300 of Japan's top high school strikers thrown into a brutal elimination program with one goal: produce the world's greatest egotistical striker. Forget teamwork. Forget selflessness. In Blue Lock, the only thing that matters is your hunger to score.

With over 65 million copies in circulation worldwide and a live-action film that just hit theaters in 2026, Blue Lock has become a global phenomenon — and the Careers in Sports crew has thoughts. Lots of them.

In this episode, the team dives into what makes Blue Lock so compelling, why its philosophy of ego and individual excellence resonates far beyond the soccer field, and what the series says about competition, identity, and what it actually takes to become elite.

Whether you're a longtime manga reader or just Blue Lock-curious, this one is worth your time.
