Art has long been an important part of Schiphol. Sometimes striking, sometimes subtle, the works here inspire the millions of travellers who visit the airport every year on their journeys. In this podcast series, you’ll learn about the stories behind the artworks, as told by the creators themselves.
‘Meeting Point’, Shinkichi Tajiri’s large, bold knot at the heart of the arrivals hall, has been the silent witness to everything that happens at Schiphol for more than 50 years. This artwork has a unique story and was created by an equally unique artist.
In this episode, Tajiri’s grandson talks about how his grandfather made his way from Los Angeles to the Dutch village of Baarlo via Paris and Amsterdam, and how his work became a means of coping with the weight of his past.
