This episode of Sitting with the Earth is dedicated to my sister Ivy Ross (https://www.ivyarts.org/projects ). Today is her birthday.
In this episode, we explore the profound freedom of not having to “pick and choose” the conditions of our happiness. We discuss how to hold pain, disappointment, and the “untoward” events of life within a “larger, spacious faith” rather than letting them define our peace.
I share a legendary story about jazz pianist Thelonious Monk and a pitcher of “rancid” orange juice. Just as a musician can take a flat note or a sour moment and turn it into beautiful music, we have the capacity to turn any situation into a miracle. Even when life feels difficult or “situationally rancid,” the ground beneath us remains fertile.
Join me for a reflection on surrender, resilience, and finding the music in the mess.
Key Themes:
• Non-duality and acceptance
• Thelonious Monk story
• Turning difficulty into miracles
• Finding peace in “rancid” situations
