People often expect big results from personal training… but is it really designed to unlock them?
We’re both certified personal trainers – and Parris spent years working as an in-person personal trainer – so this isn’t an argument that personal training is “bad.” In fact, we also talk about when personal training can be genuinely valuable. But there’s an important distinction between helping someone complete a workout and helping someone create a sustainable body transformation.
In this episode of Truth Talks, we take an honest look at where the traditional personal training model falls short for body composition change. A trainer might see you for a few hours each week, but sustainable body composition change requires much more than what happens during those sessions -from nutrition and lifestyle to activity, sleep, recovery, and decision-making outside the gym.
We also dig into a less obvious problem: compliance vs. competence. Having someone tell you what to do can help you follow a plan, but does it actually teach you how to manage your fitness independently when the trainer isn't there?
