Marit overcame cancer, brain injury, and bad relationships. She blamed her mother for her own pain and pulled away, but not completely. When her son walked away, she lost 5 family members. But Marit learned valuable lessons from each of these experiences. She made mistakes. And she got through with the grace and miracles of God. When I was younger, I emotionally rejected my own mother. I blamed her. I lived far away and cherished my resentment. We rarely talked or visited. And even when she helped me after my babies were born, all I did was take offense, despite her obvious signs of love. I even asked her to leave my house once. And I’m not proud. Years later, my child cut me off and completely removed me and their family from my life. I also lost their spouse and my grandchildren that day. By God’s grace, both relationships have been happily restored. I walked through fire to get there. And what I learned—about my child’s perspective, about my own blind spots, about how to find solid ground when everything feels like quicksand—changed everything.
