In this special episode, Dr. Charleanea sits down with Luis Cornejo (he/they), therapist, speaker, model, and host dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. The two talk about the hard truths of the mental health field and why they both decided to leave the systems that often work against the people they promise to help, especially BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people. The two queer therapists have similar experiences facing hell— racism, disrespect, being taken advantage of—before they jumped ship to create their own practices. Doing things their way has allowed them to give underrepresented and underserved communities the care that they deserve.
If you’ve wondered why you can’t seem to find a mental health professional who get it and you, Dr. Charleanea has been there. And she’s here to speak on it.
