Morning Devotional | 1 Peter 1:24–25

“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” — 1 Peter 1:24–25, KJV

“What Withers and What Remains”

Peter contrasts the temporary nature of human life and glory with the enduring Word of God. Grass withers, and flowers lose their beauty, but God’s Word remains. The gospel proclaimed to these believers rests on something time cannot weaken or erase.

Devotional Thought

Each morning brings opportunities to decide what will receive our attention and shape our confidence. We can spend our energy chasing recognition, protecting our image, or trying to make every circumstance feel secure. Yet Peter reminds us that human glory, however impressive, does not last forever.

This is not a reason to dismiss the beauty of life or the value of our work. It is an invitation to put them in their proper place. Enjoy the flower, but do not ask it to last forever. Appreciate an accomplishment, but do not make it the foundation of your identity.

Today, choose to remain rooted in what endures.

Before you measure your worth by what you accomplish, let God’s Word shape how you see yourself. Before you allow a changing circumstance to determine your peace, remember that it cannot change the truth of the gospel.

Perhaps something you once depended on is fading—a season, an opportunity, or someone’s approval. You do not have to pretend that loss is easy. But you can bring it to God without believing that everything dependable has disappeared. What changes around you does not cancel what He has spoken.

Begin this morning by giving His Word room to direct your thoughts, your choices, and your response to others. You cannot preserve every flower, but you can build your life around what will never wither.

Heavenly Father, thank You for meeting me at the beginning of this day with truth that does not fade. Forgive me for placing too much confidence in appearances, accomplishments, and the approval of others.

Help me appreciate the blessings of this life without depending on them for lasting security. Where change has made me anxious, steady my heart. Where loss has left me discouraged, remind me that Your Word still stands.

Give me understanding as I read, humility to receive Your instruction, and courage to live by it. Let the work I do and the way I treat others reflect the gospel I have received.
