Special thanks to Charles McGilvary Johnson, FCP of NGA Security Advisors for speaking to Serverli's Joseph Souza, CPP, PSP, CBCP about Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and Florida House Bill 837, also known as the ”Civil Remedies” or ”Tort Reform” bill, significantly changed the state's civil litigation landscape, particularly regarding personal injury and wrongful death cases. Key changes include a reduced statute of limitations for negligence actions, modifications to how medical damages are calculated, and adjustments to comparative negligence rules. The bill also addresses property owner liability, potentially offering them greater protection from lawsuits if they implement certain safety measures.
