Robyn Cohen welcomes back actor and teacher Matt Burke, a fellow Bicentennial Baby celebrating 50 years around the sun, for a fast-moving, mystical conversation on acting as service, storytelling as communion, and creativity as a spiritual practice. They explore the craft of stillness and receptivity, the liberation and revelations of turning 50, and the power of choosing a creative path with conscious agency. Their discussion turns to Matt’s new Broadway bound production of Here There Are Blueberries by Moisés Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater Project, a haunting exploration of photographs from Auschwitz that raises urgent questions about complicity, humanity, and the stories we must have the courage to tell. Together they unpack storytelling as a kind of religion, beliefs as repeated thoughts, theater as “church/sanctuary,” and art as the “other” that can’t be spoken. Matt shares how returning to stage work awakened him after years away, and offers a practical lens—enjoyment, satisfaction, meaning—while Robyn urges artists to breathe through rejection, use pain as fuel, and become the vessel through which transformative stories can move.
