Content warning: This episode contains descriptions of transphobia, sexual and physical violence, and racism. The term “prisoner” is used, as well as justice involved or incarcerated person to define those that are currently incarcerated. This is done to recognize both they ways in which individuals do not want their time in prisons to define them, and to acknowledge the lived realities of how people are treated in prisons; that their personhood has been reduced to that of a “prisoner”, and that more than just changing the term used is required to change this treatment.
