In this episode episode meet Gráinne Donnelly, a pelvic health physiotherapist from Northern Ireland, and learn how she came to be editing the upcoming book ”Sports Medicine and the Pelvic Floor Science to Practice” scheduled for release on April 1st 2026.
We discuss how it nearly didn't happen due to a rogue email in her junk mail !
Gráinne's experience as the editor of the POGP Journal set her up well to take on the challenges of editing a book.
The book brings together leading experts from all over the world covering topics ranging from evolutionary perspectives to clinical applications. Our discussion highlights how pelvic health research and clinical practices have evolved, particularly regarding exercise and loading protocols for the pelvic floor as well as returning to exercise following pregnancy and birth.
Gráinne hopes that the book will raise awareness among athletes, coaches, and healthcare providers about pelvic health issues faced by athletes whether they be elite level or recreational exercisers.
Gráinne Donnelly is an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist and doctoral researcher from N. Ireland. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy and the Editor of a new scientific textbook titled Sports Medicine and the Pelvic Floor – Science to Practice. She is passionate about bridging the gap between sports medicine and pelvic health in her clinical, research and educational endeavours.
