The first seeds for creating the Venus and Iris models were planted when Christine was on medical outreach mission to Bangladesh. She identified the need for women’s health education tools after seeing a lack of hands on training tools. It all started as a project which developed into the creation of the models we see today with Venus being launched in 2021. and Iris this month.

The team consulted with health professionals about the need for a vulval model with a vaginal canal and cervix. Hear the process of how they set about developing something that was as life-like as possible which involved actuator tests of organic tissue against the silicone recipes to develop the most accurate texture. They aimed for representation by skin tone, so it looks like or similar to you, being inclusive and culturally appropriate and to normalise the human body.

The models can be used as a visual aide to help educate and reduce fear, making the insertion of pessaries, tampons and menstrual cups less intimidating.

Femtechs are using the models to demonstrate their devices.
