Mental illness and addiction are some of the most challenging issues to talk about. Jessie Hakala and I, Quinn Marcroft, take on these challenges as we discuss topics like trauma, substance abuse, and the relationship of mental illness and addiction. I have struggled with mental illness since 13, and have spent over a decade navigating the challenges of the mental healthcare system. My experiences as someone with a chronic mental illness give me a unique understanding of the challenges of mental illness and trauma, though my experience with substance addiction is limited.Jessie Hakala has over 7 years of experience both working in the field of addiction recovery and recovering her self. She has seen addiction in detail, both as an addict and as a provider, and has a deep understanding of what its like to be and treat an addict. She is a wonderful person, and her experiences shed light on addiction in a way mine can't.Our backgrounds grant us both unique perspectives on addiction and mental health, and we look to learn from each other and our occasional guests as we explore these topics in depth.
