🎙 Season 3, Episode 1— PEEL: Prepare, Engage, Empower, Learn
This episode introduces the PEEL pattern and explores lessons from Doctrine andCovenants 103, the Camp of Israel, Life Prep 169, and D&C 105.
📘 Lessons Included:
Doctrine and Covenants 103
- Invite students before class to reflect on commandments or standards they may struggle with, using For the Strength of Youth.
- Anchor in D&C 103:5–8: faith in Christ increases willingness to obey.
- Share Elder Gary E. Stevenson’s “Leave the Party” story to illustrate peer pressure and choices.
- Teach the “chain of influence”: thoughts → desires → beliefs → actions → becoming.
- Reflection: Where am I in this chain today? How can the Savior strengthen me?
The Camp of Israel — Student-Led Mini-Lessons
- Trust students by assigning three to prepare one “experience” at home.
- Each student shares, asks two questions, states a principle, and bears testimony.
- Rotate between student-led teaching and curriculum video segments.
- Teacher consolidates and testifies.
- Emphasis: students learn best when they act, teach, and testify.
Life Prep Lesson 169 — Focusing on Christ in theScriptures
- Address the challenge: many youth see scripture study as “stories” instead of discovering Christ.
- Outcomes: identify a title of Christ, connect it to an attribute, explain how it deepens their relationship.
- Share the parable of Mr. Anderson — moving from knowing a name to truly knowing someone.
- Apply to Christ: recognizing His names, titles, and attributes reveals His character and draws us closer to Him.
Doctrine and Covenants 105 & Wrap-Up
- Context: after Zion’s Camp, the Lord reassured the Saints in D&C 105.
- Principle: blessings come to those who hear and obey Him.
- Reinforce the PEEL framework: Prepare, Engage, Empower, Learn.
- Close with encouragement for teachers and testimony of the Savior.
