Dr. David Rakel is Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His career has spanned rural family practice, integrative medicine fellowship training at the University of Arizona, and leading the creation of the Integrative Health Program at UW-Madison. He is the author of 11 books — including The Compassionate Connection: The Healing Power of Empathy and Mindful Listening — and is known for bridging rigorous medical science with human connection and holistic care. His work focuses on the “clinician effect,” salutogenic (health-creating) science, and how healing relationships and environments contribute to health outcomes.
